Frank Ocean is truly my favorite musical artist without question. Anyone who knows me can attest to my love of Frank. It is only right that the first portrait I painted was him. He is a very hidden person from the public, painting him was my way of forming a relationship without him beyond his music.
It was the first portrait I had ever done and it was a long process to truly understand the human face and I ended up doing it a little more impressionistically unlike my other portraits that are more realism. Above all else I wanted to capture his expression. Frank Ocean often is seen with a more “aloof” expression, as if he is constantly unamused. I aimed to capture that in this painting.
