As a class assignment, we were challenged to make a painting in the style of a known artist. I chose to replicate and reformat my all time favorite painting by the renowned portrait painter, John Signer Sergeant. The painting titled ‘Dr. Pozzi at Home’, is a full body portrait of a French doctor, surrounded by a sea of red fabrics. Since seeing this painting in person, it was always a goal to make a painting in its likeness.

I chose to slot in a woman as the main figure, a popular signer, rapper and model, Saweetie. Inspired a red carpet look she wore in a flowing red dress, I saw the parallel in my head and decided to go for it.
